A contemporary Japanese lacquer plate finished in the aesthetic tradition of Negoro-style lacquerware.
The surface is coated in deep vermillion red lacquer, with areas where the darker underlayer subtly appears along the rim. This contrast between red and black reflects a visual language long associated with Negoro lacquer traditions in Japan.
Subtle cloth texture can be seen beneath the lacquer surface. This technique is used in lacquerware construction to reinforce the wooden base while giving the surface a quiet tactile character.
With its restrained form and warm urushi surface, the plate works naturally as a small serving plate, dessert plate, or as a minimal decorative object. The design allows the material itself — lacquer, color, and texture — to remain the central visual element.
Diameter: approximately 15 cm Material: lacquer on wooden base Technique: cloth reinforcement beneath lacquer, Negoro-style finish Origin: Japan Condition: good condition with minor surface variations typical of lacquer craftsmanship
